Review

The Gomadic Flexible Auto Windshield Holder is designed to keep your Nexus One in place while allowing fingertip access in the car. It consists of a suction cup with goose neck and a holder. A car charger is also included with them.

The holder has two adjustable side retainers and two swivel bottom supports that secure your Nexus One in place. The side retainers can expand from 1 3/8″ to 4 1/8″ horizontally, which means any device that measures within this range can fit in the holder. The side retainers can also move vertically to give you access to the side buttons. There is a 1/4″ foam pad on each side retainer that protects your Nexus One from getting scratched and skidding. The swivel bottom supports ensures the USB port is readily accessible. In addition, there are soft pads on the back plate and bottom supports that protect your Nexus One.

The suction cup features a leaver that creates a tight vacuum hold to prevent accidental releases. The goose neck measures 6 1/2″, which is long enough to keep your Nexus One close to you. The goose neck is firm, but you can still adjust the position of your Nexus One without difficulties. You can’t, however, change the orientation from portrait to landscape without first adjusting the suction cup.

The car charger features 1000 mA high output current, which is what you will find in the stock wall charger. In other words, the charge time using the car charger is comparable to that of the wall charger. With its advanced internal circuitry, it can prevent your Nexus One from overcharging, power surges, and short-circuiting.

I tested the holder for a combined total of 5 hours’ drive – both on highway and in city. The result cannot be more satisfactory. It held my Nexus One steady even on some rough roads. Further, I had a clear view of the screen and easy access to the phone as it was within reach. The charge time was short, too. I could easily get full charge within three hours.

The only downside I could find is that there is no easy way to secure your Nexus One in the holder when you are driving. You either have to pull over to do it or have the front passenger (if there’s one) do it for you.

Overall

All in all, the Gomadic Flexible Auto Windshield Holder with Car Charger is a great accessory for your Nexus One if you own a car. You don’t only use it when you have a road trip. I am certain that it will come in handy in your daily commute to work.

Gomadic Flexible Auto Windshield Holder with Car Charger for Google Nexus One is currently available from Gomadic for $39.95.
